A 20.00 acre parcel of Section 25 was purchased as a mining property, mining potential is unknown. This property is near the road to the Ft. Irwin Army tank training ground, providing reasonable access to the property location. It was known that several mines were operating in the same general area, e.g. the Desert Dawn mine which was producing barite for drilling. In 1862 railroads were deeded sections of land in a checkerboard pattern to get them to build out to the West Coast. In 1864 the deeds were changed to give the railroads rights to minerals as well. The railroads could sell off the deeded land to get additional funds for road construction. One of the sections sold off was Section 25 of Township 11N, Range 1E of the San Bernardino Meridian. Located approximately north east of Barstow off of the I-15 freeway.
